Alliance for Quality Nursing Home Care
The Alliance for Quality Nursing Home Care was founded in 1999 to generate public understanding of the Long Term Care crisis in America, brought about by the flawed implementation of the Medicare Prospective Payment System with the Balanced Budget Act of 1997.
The Alliance has the following goals:
- To develop and implement a consistent message, along with lobbying and grassroots strategies that result in legislative and/or administrative relief from the devastating effects of the Medicare Prospective Payment System
- To address the inadequate Medicaid reimbursement levels that have caused a loss averaging $15/day for every Long Term Care resident in America
- To identify and fund initiatives that address other profession-wide issues such as quality care, tort reform and survey/enforcement
From 1999 to 2003, the efforts of the Alliance were instrumental in brining a combined $7.4 billion back into the profession.
Presently, the Alliance is addressing longer term options for proper Medicare funding, tort reform, the under funding of Medicaid costs by an estimated $4.1 billion, and the establishment of a profession-wide quality improvement initiative – Quality First.
